Young at Heart Club

The Young at Heart Club is a program that is meant to encourage prospective dog owners that senior dogs are worthy of a loving home and to discover the joys and benefits of owning a mature dog.

The goal of the Young at Heart Club is to ensure that the golden years of every one of our senior dogs are happy and safe and that they know that they are loved. Many people are reluctant to adopt a senior dog because they fear that their time with your new best friend will not be as long as they would like. But the privilege of loving a senior dog makes every single day special, as you and your companion share love, friendship and a special relationship that grows stronger with the knowledge that you have given this wonderful dog a happy life.

Reasons to Adopt a Senior Dog

To qualify for the program, potential adopters must participate in the shelter's usual adoption screening process.

For adoption information, contact Anderson Animal Shelter at (847) 697-2880, or e-mail us at neuteryourpets@andersonanimalshelter.com. Please include the dog's name and a note that he or she is a member of the Young At Heart Club in your e-mail message.

Adoptable Senior Dogs

Ricky

Male - Jack Russel Terrier [Mix]

This adorable and friendly 9 year old boy was found as a stray by a good Samaritan. Although a senior, Ricky is active and loves to play with toys, especially balls. Since he does not always like to share his toys we are asking for a home with children over the age of 8. Ricky would prefer to be the only dog in the home, unless the other dog is very calm. If you have a place in your home and heart for this sweetheart, stop by and meet Ricky.

Scarlette

Male - Pit Bull Terrier[Mix]

Hi my name is Scarlette and I'm a dainty 8 year old girl looking for a loving home to call my own. I'm social when meeting new people and I love to give kisses. I enjoy long walks and I don't pull on the leash. I also fancy a good chew toy, particularly kongs stuffed with treats and peanut butter. I'd prefer to be the only animal in the home where I can get your full love and attention.
