Young at Heart Club

The Young at Heart Club is a program that is meant to encourage prospective dog owners that senior dogs are worthy of a loving home and to discover the joys and benefits of owning a mature dog. The adoption fee of our senior dogs, age 7 years and older, is reduced to $100.00

The goal of the Young at Heart Club is to ensure that the golden years of every one of our senior dogs are happy and safe and that they know that they are loved. Many people are reluctant to adopt a senior dog because they fear that their time with your new best friend will not be as long as they would like. But the privilege of loving a senior dog makes every single day special, as you and your companion share love, friendship and a special relationship that grows stronger with the knowledge that you have given this wonderful dog a happy life.

Reasons to Adopt a Senior Dog

To qualify for the program, potential adopters must participate in the shelter's usual adoption screening process.

For adoption information, contact Anderson Animal Shelter at (847) 697-2880, or e-mail us at neuteryourpets@andersonanimalshelter.com. Please include the dog's name and a note that he or she is a member of the Young At Heart Club in your e-mail message.

Meet the Members

precious precious

Precious

Female - Pit Bull Terrier Mix

Precious has sure earned her name; she is an extremely sweet and wiggly girl who enjoys getting attention more than anything. This darling does not discriminate...she loves everyone that she has the pleasure of meeting. When you meet her you will quickly understand why she is a staff and volunteer favorite. It seems that she must have had a home at some time because she knows the sit and shake commands. Although considered a senior at nine years young, Precious is still energetic and enjoys walks, but she also would not mind hanging out on the couch with her people. This sweet gal will need to be the only pet in the home. If you think this brown and white beauty could be just the girl youre looking for, come meet Precious today! Precious is a member of our Young at Hearts Club, so her adoption fee is reduced to $100.00 to encourage prospective dog owners to consider a senior dog (visit the Young at Hearts section of our website for more details).

Alfred

Male - Shepherd

This handsome brindle seven year old was found wandering the streets. He is now hoping to find his way into someone's home and heart. Smart and good looking, Alfred knows the sit and down commands and could easily be taught more. Catching balls in his mouth is his best trick and quite entertaining for both Alfred and any on lookers. Although a friendly boy, he is very possessive of food and other high prized items and will need to be in an experienced, adult only home, as the only dog. If you are in the market for a seventy seven pound addition to your home then stop by the shelter to meet Alfred.

Mojo

Male - Pug/Boston Terrier Mix

Meet Mojo on Saturday, April 13th between 11 AM – 3 PM at the Algonquin PetSmart (1808 S. Randall Rd.) How can anyone resist that face? Meet Mojo, who was reluctantly given up by his family. He now needs a new home to call his own and a family to love. Mojo's previous family experienced a lot of life changes and found that they no longer had the time required for a dog. At eight years young, this sweet boy has lots of energy; his favorite past time is going for long walks or even a jog. Mojo craves attention and loves to cuddle. He especially enjoys children and lived with a three year old, who he adored and was very tolerant of. Mojo deserves someone who has the time to dote on him and show him that he is loved. If that someone is you, then please stop by the shelter to meet him.

Mandy

Female - Black Labrador Retriever

Sweet and gentle Mandy needs a family to love and dote on her. This darling lady found her self at an overcrowded animal control where she doubtfully would have went up for adoption. When we took one look into her kind eyes we knew that she had to come with us. Seven year old Mandy is now waiting patiently for her forever home. Although a senior with a bit of arthritis, Mandy is still quite active and enjoys playing with toys and going for walks. Very friendly and social she has not met anyone that she does not like. Stop by the shelter to meet marvelous Mandy and you won't be disappointed.

Baby Bell

Female - Miniature Pinscher

Baby Bell came to us with four sweet puppies that have since found homes. It is now Bells turn to find a family who will love and pamper her. This seven year old Miniature Pinscher is very sweet and loving and will do well in most any home. She enjoys people and other dogs; however her home will need to be cat free. This smart lady knows many commands including sit and shake! A family that enjoys a quick paced dog who often likes to cuddle and enjoys sitting on a warm lap, would be the best match for her. For more information on the Miniature Pinscher breed and to be sure Baby Bell is a good fit for your lifestyle please visit the following website. If you think Baby Bell will be good fit for your family, stop by the shelter to meet her. For more information on Baby Bell or our other adoptable dogs or cats call us at 847-697-2880 x: 28.

Cindy

Female - Shepherd/Husky Mix

If you are in the market for a mature gal then please consider thirteen year old Cindy. Sadly, after ten years, her owners gave her up. She now needs a loving home to spend her golden years in. All that she asks is for a warm spot on the coach and someone to let he know that she is loved each and every day. Not surprisingly this sweet senior lady has arthritis, but does get around rather well with medications to assist. Cindy does not care to share her possessions, and based on this and her advanced age we are asking for an adult only home. Please consider giving Cindy a home to call her own and a place to grow old with love and dignity.
