What Can I Do About The Feral Cat(s) In My Neighborhood?
It is important for everyone to take responsibility for the neighborhood feral(s). Left unattended, these cats can reproduce in alarming numbers. Rallying forces with other neighbors to practice TNR with the cats will result in a stabilized population (no more kittens), a reduction in nuisance behaviors like fighting and spraying, and healthier cats.
Anderson Animal Shelter has humane traps available for loan with a deposit to Kane County residents who wish to trap feral cats for spay/neuter. While Anderson Animal Shelter staff will not perform trapping directly; we will be a resource for questions about the trapping process.
Feral cats can be spayed/neutered at Anderson Animal Shelter’s veterinary clinic, Monday-Friday for a fee of $56.00 (should be $56.00). This includes the spay/neuter surgery, feline leukemia and FIV test, rabies vaccination, distemper vaccination, and ear tip. For an appointment, please call 847-697-2880 x*0.
After surgery, ferals need a brief recovery period before they are released back into their home territory. Anderson Animal Shelter has large dog crates available to loan for use as recovery cages. Anderson Animal Shelter staff is always available as a resource to Kane County caretakers who have a need for assistance with their feral colonies before, during and after the TNR process
